Some of the major goals I addressed as Associate Vice President

for Research & Dean of the College of Graduate Studies

     at Lamar University

1. Increase graduate enrollment

--Doctoral enrollment has increased 338% since I arrived at Lamar

(2001); there was a 180% in the last 2 years

--Full time graduate enrollment is up 64%.

--Master’s semester credit hours are up 53% since 2001.

--Graduate scholarships awarded by the College of Graduate Studies are up

774% since my arrival (from $75K to almost $600K).                                      go here for a complete resumé

2. Increase the number of doctorates

Lamar had 1 doctorate when I came.  We’ve added 4 doctorates: education, deaf studies, audiology, and chemical engineering (Lamar’s first Ph.D.)

3. Increase international enrollment

Despite the effects of 9/11 and an overall interruption of international students coming to the U.S. to study, international enrollment is up 274% at Lamar since my arrival.

4. Increase sponsored research

--Sponsored research increased from $3 million annually to $11 million.

--Under my direction Lamar participated in the first Texas State University System collaborative grants and secured federal funds.

--Under my stewardship of sponsored programs, Lamar received more National Science Foundation Grants than the other 8 schools in TSUS added together.

--I used my portion of research overhead to subsidize $36,000 in faculty travel.

--I increased internal Research Enhancement Grants ($5000 each) from 13 to 20.

--I created Lamar’s first scholarly & creative activity booklet.  Now done annually.
